Just Launched: SFMOMA 2012 Annual Report

Carbon Five is proud to announce the launch of our latest collaboration with the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. The SFMOMA 2012 Annual Report is a primary channel the museum uses to communicate with its donor base, and Carbon Five was thrilled to be asked to design, develop and deliver this engaging piece of collateral.

On the design side, Elias created a completely new visual language, along with compelling illustrations and dynamic data visualizations. James and Aaron provided the client-side lifting, integrating Skrollr for parallax-y goodness and responsive design using CSS media queries for better support on tablets. All in just a couple of weeks.

One of the keys to this velocity is developer-designer pairing. We pair program across disciplines a lot here at Carbon Five, and if you want to design, develop, and launch an app as fast as possible, your designers and developers should really be sitting side by side most of the time. This project had a ton of creative push and pull between the disciplines and the product is definitely the better for it.

The 2012 Annual Report also marks the closing of the museum for a couple of years as construction commences on the new Snøhetta expansion. While we’re a little bummed that we won’t get to visit the collection in the building, we’re super excited about the new building and all of the innovative ways SFMOMA is going to be collaborating with other institutions in the meantime as they take their show on the road.
