Tell us about what you’re studying/majoring in at school:
I’m currently studying computer science and mathematics at the University of Maryland. I chose not to have a specialization in favor of a more broad education. I have taken courses and done projects in the fields of data science, analysis, and algorithmic design. I’ve also done some independent study on elliptic curves and how they could be used to form encryption schemes.
What is the most exciting thing about working in tech?
I like developing new products that people can use in their daily lives. It’s really exciting being on the edge of the new products and technologies that are always popping up. It makes every day interesting knowing that there will always be more to learn and new things to create.
What do you love about software engineering?
I’ve always been a fan of puzzles and I like constantly learning new things. Software engineering gives me the outlet to solve interesting problems and learn new things. I think there are very few things as satisfying as figuring out a solution to a problem that was giving me trouble.
What’s the coolest thing about Carbon Five?
Working with intelligent and cool people who are friendly and work well together. I’m also a very big fan of the pairing system. It’s given me the opportunity to learn from some very smart people and the space to contribute and share my ideas as well. The company culture encourages learning and self improvement and I think that’s really cool.
What’s one learning from your internship at Carbon Five you’d like to share?
I learned a lot about the development process and how all the different disciplines from product management to design work together to create a product. This was my first time working on a project and product of this scale, and it was interesting to see everything come together from product, to design, to development.
Share one MUST DO recommendation:
For everyone that watches anime I would recommend “To Your Eternity.” It’s a little sad but I think it’s still a good watch. I also love biking through nature and I think it’s something people should try.
